Save on Utility Bills By Using Eco-Friendly Solar Window Blinds

Window

Large, new homes often have vast expanses of window glass that let in light and allow the homeowners an unobstructed view. The only problem with these windows, other than trying to keep them clean, is that at certain times of the day and seasons of the year, too much sun can shine in. Left unchecked, the sun’s rays can heat the house up even while you’re trying to cool it, make living spaces uncomfortable, and damage carpets and furnishings. Because of these facts, people who own homes with large windows need solar window blinds that will keep the sun out when necessary. Most of these blinds are made of PVC and have a smell to them, so homeowners are looking for alternatives.

A lot of people want window coverings that not only block the sun’s rays but which are also an ecologically-sound choice. PVC, while doing a good job of blocking sun, certainly isn’t a green product. One eco-friendly option which is free of PVC would be screens that are constructed using either a cotton-polyester blend or acrylic-coated fiberglass. These solar screens come in many different decorator colors, and they are rated by the amount of light they let in, which is known as the openness factor. A lower openness factor clouds the view while offering the best in UV blockage. A higher openness score means that the UV blockage is low, you’ll have a better view, and you’ll need additional window treatments to provide privacy. Blinds with the lowest openness factor are known as blackout shades BĪDĀMĀS DURVIS.

For anyone who would like to completely eliminate window coverings containing synthetic fibers, a good choice can be Roman shades. These shades contain such natural materials as sisal, grass, organic cotton, linen, cellulosic fibers, and hemp. For this type of blind, you can choose your fabric and have them custom made. Keep in mind that the looser the fabric weave and the lighter the color, the more light that will filter in through them; however, they are still excellent solar screens. One problem with natural fibers is that they are more likely to fade when exposed to the sun. You can alleviate this problem by choosing a very light color that won’t show the fading as badly.

The solar window blinds that you choose can make a big difference in the environment within your home. When purchasing them, you need to consider the amount of light you still want to allow to come in, the type of fabric you prefer, and openness factors. Choosing wisely will still let your home be light and airy, and it will also have a huge impact on your heating and cooling bills.
